An odd fact about myself-

I really, really like organizing things.  Not just “like” like- if giving the choice between a long bath and a chance to putter around with reordering my craft space, I will choose the latter.  Want proof?

My mother hasn’t had time to unpack her sewing/craft room since their move.  So what do I do whilst on vacation?

Unpack it myself.  (With her blessing and thanks, of course.  I’m not a house elf.  I don’t reorganize overnight against people’s wishes just to see their confusion when they can’t find embroidery thread.  Although, now that I think about it…)

Back to the original line of thought.  Now, I look at mom’s craft room all tidy and organized, and I feel this immense satisfaction.

Ah…  nice!

Have you ever thought about a career as a professional organizer? A. Its GREAT money. B. You make your own hours. C. You get immense personal satisfaction getting the job done. D. You can change people’s lives. Something to think about… especially since its something you enjoy. Just a thought!

I believe they have an anagram for that… :-P

    Lindsey,

We’re kindred spirits! I courted my partner by organizing all the boxes of papers she’s collected over the years before we met. I sorted through the piles, organized them by year and then sealed them into dated packets using my Foodsaver vacuum sealer. How could she resist me after that?

Nothing like organizing for a little instant gratification, eh? :)

Tidying up like that is great. I find cleaning and tidying very therapeutic and stress relieving. It’s simple and when it’s done it’s actually finished unlike other projects which can just drag on and on and take forever.

    Please, come to my house.

I’m the same way! Woohoo! Kindred spirits :D

Amber: Way, way back in the day I worked in “maintainance and organization” at a doctor’s office and a few homes. Best. Job. Ever. I made 10-15 an hour, which meant that I only had to work three hours a day to make ends meet.

Of course, I was only seventeen. The ends didn’t have to stretch very far to meet. I’ve been thinking about hanging that shingle out again. I could work after the kids were asleep (if it were an office) or Saturday and Sunday mornings (if it were a home) and not have to leave the kids in daycare. That would be nice. If I have to put the kids in daycare, I can’t afford to work.

Anita: My husband often jokes “wherever would I be without you?” to which I reply, “dead under a pile of game manuals, probably.”

RWG: It’s very cathartic. My mother says, “tidy room, tidy mind.” Which I find to be true. I keep my thoughts in order better when surrounded by order. And have you seen the homes of serial killers in the movies? Always a dump. ;)

Julie: You actually live within driving distance, don’t you? I charge $12 an hour. :D

Ruby: For some reason when I find a tiny bit of myself in someone else I ALWAYS feel this temporary bliss. Like, maybe I’m NOT such a freak after all!

Lindsey–That’s one way to spend some vacation time. I like to organize too. Messy drives me crazy. The thing is Cara and I have different ideas of organized. I’ll spend hours putting something in ‘order’ and she’ll think it’s a hot mess because it’s not the order she thinks it should be in.

Ahhh me…but it does feel good to have things organized.

You know you can get help for that…right?

Thing is, when your MIL has ppl over she will show them what you have done and brag about how wonderful you are.

Isn’t it interesting how our Lord allows us to bless others just by being the ppl He created us to be.

I wish I had that trait but alas I wallow in my messy office. Closest I get to that is I constantly have to straighten things hanging on walls. I do it at home, the office, the doctor’s office, whereever, and I secretly wish I could carry a little carpenters level with me.

lesbiansaidwhat: It really was very cathartic, and I had some crafting I needed to get done that I NEVER would have done with the room a wreck.

M54: It was all totally worth it for the look on Mom’s face when she saw what I’d done. It’s an amazing feeling, really, knowing the difference we can make for others.

PolitiP: I think they make pocket size laser levels… ;)
